Our Journey Through Lent
February 17, 2010 through April 4, 2010
Ash Wednesday - Easter
As we have completed Fit for Christmas and Beyond, let us continue with Journey Through Lent. During the 40 days of Lent, we will focus on our Lenten resolutions. Some give up sweets, certain foods or activities, while others may forgo watching MTV or movies. Our Lenten spiritual journey should not be confined only to "giving up" things; we should "take on" things (for example: family prayers, acts of kindness, volunteering and exercise). Our souls need spiritual exercise to gain strength for living as Catholics, just as our bodies need exercise to remain healthy. Lent is a good time to begin.
We are prepared to do something special during this journey. Now is a perfect time to start or continue our resolutions to remain both spiritually and physically fit.
No one is too old to enjoy the benefits of regular physical exercise. Come join us as we start our Lenten season journey toward the resurrection of our Lord.
How it works: Record what you have given up or taken on:
- Check with your doctor before starting a new exercise program.
- Participate as a family, class or individual.
- Sheets located in the Narthex by the Health & Wellness Ministry flyers.
- Take a tracking sheet or download form from our website.
- Record what you have given up or taken on.
- Examples of "taken on" activities: family prayers, acts of kindness, volunteering, exercise, etc.
- 20 minutes of exercise/housework/gardening/etc = 1 mile/2,000 steps equal 1 mile
- Examples of "given up" activities: sweets, soda, MTV, music, texting, video games, online shopping, etc.
- After Easter, drop-off tracking sheets in baskets located in the Narthex or e-mail to Mike Mancuso at mikewellness@yahoo.com. (Please turn-in all entries by April 16, 2010.)
- Total number of days recorded will be posted in the Narthex after Easter.
