College Scholarship for Basketball

QUESTION:
I just got a call to go to play for ASU women’s basketball on a a four year scholarship but I’m afraid of what my parents would say. My parents are not really supportive of college since neither of them went. Should I skip out on the scholarship or should I go for?

ANSWER:

Wow! Congratulations to you! The best course of action would be to have your parents and you meet with those in charge of ASU Basketball to sit down and answer any of the questions or concerns that you all have.  Your parents could get a chance to ask what is on their mind and also sort out any concerns that they might have about you going and playing on a college level.

I would not get rid of the scholarship until I had exhausted all of my questions and other options.

The next step is for you to really ask yourself if this is what you want. Are you ready to play on a college level and all that is required for that to happen-sacrifices and rewards?  Is college where you see yourself for the next 4-5 years? What career field do you think you are being led to?

The most important step of all is prayer. What does God want? Is this where God would like you to best use the gifts He has blessed you with?

Good luck to you in all that you do. You can use this very unique opportunity to make a real difference in collegiate sports by being a person of faith playing morally and fairly.
