QUESTION:
I have five or six friends that have police warrants for them. They have been my friends since second grade. We’re in our last year of High School. I know where they live but I don’t want to hand them over to the police because I don’t want them to give them my name and told them that I handed them over. What should I do?
ANSWER:
That is a tough situation that you are in for sure. How do you know that there are warrants for their arrest? Is this accurate information or just a rumor you “heard?” Did one of them tell you this? This is important to know before you make any decisions or accusations. You must know for a fact that they are guilty of what they are accused of doing.
Do you think that your friends will change their behavior if the police find out or stay on the same course they are currently on if the police do not intervene? Do you think that they realize they have done anything wrong or that there are warrants for their arrest? Do they have any family support in place?
If you feel that it is best for their future to face the fact that they have broken the law and in doing so, they can turn around and hopefully lead a more positive life then calling anonymously to crime stoppers may be an option that you can consider and let the authorities take it from there.
